Solar battery storage
Photovoltaic systems store solar energy efficiently.
With a photovolatic system, you are largely independent of the electricity grid and use the solar energy. With a storage system, you can store the energy generated in a specific way so that you can use it later. In this way, you optimise your consumption and have enough energy available during the day. A storage system upgrades your system and optimises its use.
Advantages of storage for photovoltaic systems
Storage for PV systems is also known as solar accumulators, solar cells or solar batteries. These batteries are specially designed for use in conjunction with PV systems.Island systems in particular use the storage system to store the energy generated by the solar cells. They also serve as a buffer battery for systems with high power consumption. The electricity does not have to be consumed at the moment it is generated, but is also available at times when there is no sunlight. This reduces the consumption from the grid and in many cases the surplus electricity is fed back into the grid. You are paid by your energy supplier for this service, so you earn money.
The installation of the solar collectors and water tanks
Investing in a quality storage tank for photovoltaic (PV) systems makes sense for both new and existing PV systems.By installing it, you increase the benefit of your system and the investment pays off quickly. In combination with the PV system, you supply your entire house with electricity. You also earn money efficiently by feeding the surplus energy back into the grid during times of high market prices. When building the PV system, it is important that you choose a suitable location. Not only the size of the area plays a role, but also the orientation, the inclination and the compass direction. How much energy you produce can be increased by the right installation. For this reason, a storage tank is ideal for both detached houses and larger buildings.
Batteries and accumulators - The storage variants
The lead accumulator is one of the oldest forms of storage technology. It consists of two electrodes separated by a liquid electrolyte. When the system is connected to the mains, current flows through the external circuit and charges the battery.During the charging process, the positive electrode (cathode) gives off electrons to the electrolyte. These electrons flow through the external circuit and reach the negative electrode (anode). At the same time, the chemical reaction between the electrolyte and the active material produces protons and oxygen gas.The oxygen gas flows out of the cell and pushes the electrolyte back to the cathode. The protons flow through the separator and react with the oxygen gas to form water. The water then dissolves the active material and pushes it back to the cathode. This process continues until the battery has reached its full capacity. As soon as the battery is fully charged, the excess electrons go back into the power grid and the battery discharges again.
Lithium-ion batteries - the most common type of rechargeable batteries
Due to the optimal price-performance ratio, lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are increasingly used today. The greatest advantages of lithium-ion batteries are their very long service life of around twenty years and the convincing cycle stabilities, which can often exceed ten thousand discharges and charges. In addition, the battery cells for solar power systems score in many cases with deep discharge protection, flexible partial discharge without disruptive memory effects, fast charging capability and pleasant and quiet operation.Lithium iron phosphate batteries have also gained popularity due to their low price, good cycle stability and high safety level.
